Mega Events Being Called Off Amid Omicron Fear

Amid the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and fear of a new 'Omicron' variant can put up hurdles for several already planned holiday travel and end-of-the-year parties like Christmas and New Year.
This can also affect the revenue in the hospitality industry as most of the people from the industry depend upon these big events which generate enough revenue.
Amid the rising case of Omicron in the country, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation recently circulated an advisory to the residents of Mumbai and urged them to avoid gatherings on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Meanwhile, according to the official guidelines, closed places like restaurants and halls will have to adhere to a capacity cap of 50 per cent, open venues will have a capacity cap of 25 per cent. The Corporation has also decided to send out persons to check if residents are following the guidelines or not.
Citing the existing COVID-19 rules, the District Disaster Management Authority of New Delhi has also issued guidelines for the cancellation of Punjabi singer A P Dhillon’s concert at Andaz hotel in Aerocity due to the ongoing scare of the Omicron variant.
Down South, the COVID-19 technical advisory committee of Karnataka has recommended curbs, including a nightly curfew from December 30 to January 2 when the violations of curbs are expected to be high which further can lead to spread of the virus.
