Fresh COVID-19 Curbs To Disturb 4 Lakh Cr Business Amid Wedding Season

CAIT added that the revenue generated from the wedding season will be reduced with a meagre turnover of Rs 1.5 lakh crore, amid the high hopes of the traders for doing good business during this second spell of the wedding season.

The rising case of COVID-19 due to the Omicron variant in the entire country, the latest Coronavirus restrictions can affect the business of approximately 4 lakh crore, amid the ensuing wedding season, said the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Monday. 

The ensuing wedding season beginning from January 14 is expected to generate a business turnover of over Rs. 4 lakh crore with solemnisation of approximately 30 lakh weddings from January 14 to March 31. However, it will be disturbed with the impositions of various curbs by state governments on weddings and other related functions, the trade body said. 

CAIT added that the revenue generated from the wedding season will be reduced with a meagre turnover of Rs 1.5 lakh crore, amid the high hopes of the traders for doing good business during this second spell of the wedding season. 

Meanwhile, in the earlier first spell from  November 14 to December December 14, the traders across the country registered an impressive seasonal turnover of about Rs. 3 lakh crore with solemnisation of around 25 lakh weddings, added CAIT.

CAIT National President BC Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal in a joint statement said, "There are 17 main wedding Muhurtas during the second phase of wedding season and accordingly the banquet halls, hotels, marriage lawns, farmhouses and other weddings places across the country including Delhi were fully geared up."
