Q3. How do you think the pandemic-driven trends altered the key aspects of India's Job Market?

The job scenario in the country has witnessed the worse hit by leaving around one crore people jobless during the second wave of Covid. However, some of the recent studies show that 8 out of 10 employers are hiring actively. The Covid-19 pandemic has created a very tough situation for employees as well as employers. In 2020, organizations took a huge hit on their earnings which resulted in the form of salary cut and layoffs. Also, this has impacted the hiring budgets of organizations very badly.

Companies can make their hiring strategies more lucrative by providing the benefits of-

Work from Home: The pandemic has shown us the wider perspective of work culture. Unlike earlier, remote work culture is now normal and now companies and employees both have adopted this very well. Here companies can reduce their fixed expenses up to some extent. Promoting Flexi working hours can improve the productivity as well as the better work-life balance of the employees.

Professional social network: This is another hiring tool that every organization has, and this is one of the most trusted strategies. Through this strategy, companies can onboard good talent of the industry and the best part of this is they can get trusted candidates who can easily fit in the culture of the organization.

Interns and Freshers hiring: Companies can use this strategy to build their team. The advantage of this strategy is Interns and Freshers can adopt the culture of the company very easily.

Contractual hiring is also in high demand for one-two project. As per recent reports, there could be over 130 million gig economy workers in India & this has not only been limited to India, as per PayPal’s Global Freelancer Insights Report, one in every four freelancers is from India globally.

Social media hiring: Social media platforms like LinkedIn can play an important role in the hiring of freshers as well as experienced ones. The advantage of social media hiring is you can get such a pool of talent which is incomparable with any other source of hiring.

Q4. What are the upskilling opportunities available in India to enable job seekers to stay relevant?

Technology is ever-evolving and it is necessary to constantly keep evolving and continue acquiring new skills that are in demand. It’s inevitable for professionals to upgrade themselves to not just stay relevant but to thrive in the new world order. This includes Cloud Computing, AI, ML, Data Analysts, Cybersecurity, DevOps among others. Cloud skills are in high demand and platforms such as AWS and Microsoft Azure are opening up new channels of opportunities. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) have an edge over other technologies and skills such as TensorFlow, Python, Java, R, and Natural Language Processing allow working on AI or ML and demand for these skills is increasing. However, the demand for skills in the tech industry will keep changing from time to time owing to its evolving nature.

Q5. What are your views on the current scenario of skilling and upskilling in India?

Skilling and upskilling are going to be the buzzwords for 2022 & the year will also mark the beginning of the age of human potential expansion here in India. Owing to increased digitalisation & evolving industry dynamics, corporates are mapping down the skill requirements required to survive & thrive in this new normal. As we move towards a more intricate hybrid work environment, a majority of India’s workforce will require reskilling in the coming months to meet the growing demand for new-age technology talent. To expand the existing digital talent pool and capitalise on digital transformation initiatives there is a need to effectively integrate cutting edge technologies such as AI, ML, AR & VR, innovation and R&D to enable next-generation immersive experiences.

Q6.) Do you think technologies like AI/ ML helps corporates in effective decision making in terms of hiring?

Hiring is one of the most important yet the most elaborative functions of HRs & AI is helping HRs in this by streamlining or automating certain parts of the recruiting workflow, especially repetitive, high-volume tasks. AI in the hiring process is helping Talent Acquisition Managers (TAs) automate an array of time-sucking tasks. From mundane administrative tasks to creating and improving standardized job matching processes and speeding up the time it takes to screen, hire, and onboard new candidates. They are various AI applications that help in the hiring process and give a better outcome.

There are 3 main ways this technology will change the role of the recruiter:

  • Recruiters can conduct proactive strategic hiring, saving time on reactive backfilling.

  • Recruiters can communicate better with candidates in-person to build relationships and help determine culture fit.

  • Recruiters can close the loop with further administration as AI can take care of most processes.
