Time Out India ‘spills the beans’ at annual Food Awards


RajnishRawat, COO and Publisher, Time Out India andJaideepGiridhar, Editor-in-Chief, Time Out India, played perfect hosts for the evening where all the foodies got together for the celebration of the best of the best in India at Hyatt Regency, Gurgaon. The evening honoured the best in the industry for their food, ambiance and drinks. Yes, we’re talking about the Time Out Food Awards 2014.

The sponsors of the evening were Citibank, associate sponsor Godrej Properties, event partners Z KhanaKhazana, Nokia Lumia, POSist, Yahoo!,Erdinger, Jim Beam, Hyatt Regency, Ditto TV, Fratelli Wines, and Rubberband.

The awards were divided into four segments, punctuated by performances and ‘Chefs’ Talk’ by Gorai, Dalmia, Chandra and MasterChef India’s KunalKapoor. Dalmia and Khanna were awarded for their outstanding contribution to the food industry.The Olive Group’s A D Singh picked up the award for Best Restaurateur (Critic’s Choice) and IrfanPabaney and Rachel Goenka’s Mumbai restaurant The Sassy Spoon won the award for Best Independent Restaurant (Critic’s Choice).The Imperial FernandoBallet Company and comedian Papa CJ had the audience enthralled during in between the awards to beat the monotony of the event.

The Time Out Food Awards, now in its second edition, recognized the work of culinary masters of all kinds – contemporary, classic, fusion, traditional, experimental – in two separate categories, Critics’ Choice and People’s Choice awards. “We’ve maintained the central credo that informs the Food & Drink section of Time Out magazines the world over to decide the nominees, and winners, in the ten Critics’ Choice categories,” said JaideepGiridhar, Editor-in-Chief, Time Out India. “We have attempted to maintain the same sense of objectivity and transparency in the judging process that we employ in our restaurant reviews.” But perhaps the most grueling test of talent presented itself in the form of the 27 Peoples’ Choice categories, which cover seven Indian cities and span a wide range of cuisines and eating experiences.

The evening was packed with a lot of celebrities and chefs such as Manish Mehrotra, VikasKhanna, Manu Chandra, KunalKapoor, Sabby, Papa CJ, Gaurav Gupta, SonalMansingh, Rajat Sharma, AtulWassan, Rajesh Namby, Mayur, RajnishRawat, JaideepGiridhar, Raul Chandra, NidaMAhmood, RituDalmia, Sid Mathur, SukhjrajSandhar, Yuko, Tabrik, NelofarCurrimbhoy, Vijender Singh, AD Singh, Federico Mantoani, AdityaArya, Ajay Saini, Joydeep Singh, Anamika, Ramon Lamba, SmitiKanodia, LushinDubey, Blossom Kochhar, and Shamshul Wahid. 

“Food and drinks category is special for Time Out readers and globally we are known for our food reviews and recommendations. Encompassing smaller cities and more categories in the People’s choice was a conscious decision because we wanted to give a voice to the gourmands of India , that came from the lesser known parts of the country”, said RajnishRawat, the COO and Publisher of Time Out magazines in India.
