Teamwork Arts introduces children to magic of storytelling through 4th Kahaani Festival in Jaipur
Conceived by performing arts entertainment company, Teamwork Arts, the Kahaani Festival will kick off at the venue Amroodon ka Bagh, Vidhan Sabha on 24th and 25th November 2017.
Kahaani brings alive the timeless art of storytelling and re-imagines it through different art forms such as music, art, craftwork, theatre, dance and puppetry. Building on the concept of learning beyond the classroom, it attempts to create an atmosphere for children to think out of the box and experience a sense of creative freedom unshackled by routine.
Kahaani is a journey for children from ages 4 to 16 that takes its audience to the places of enchanted learning. The festival this year has grown into a city-wide celebration of storytelling. Having travelled to cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Mahabaleshwar and Pune in the past, the festival mascot, Kahaani Owl will continue with its journey to Delhi in December and Punjab in February, post-Jaipur.
The Festival 2017, offers an opportunity to experience Kahaani at the different sub-venues, like the Storyville, with storytellers who transport children to a world full of magic, wonder and excitement; the Center Stage, presenting a segment called, ‘Artists Speak’ providing both children and parents an opportunity to interact with artists from various fields and the Camlin Art Hub, that will be a venue at the festival and act as a recreational walk-in experience with various activities to engross children, and many others.
To widen the scope of the Festival and bring the excitement of the Festival to kids who otherwise would not get the opportunity to witness the festival, Teamwork Arts in partnership with Pratham Books, a not-for-profit trust that publishes multilingual children’s books will organise the Outreach Programme in various institutions, including public, private and governmental schools as well as non-governmental organizations. The programme will present interactive sessions with authors, performers and illustrators, who will travel with the Outreach Programme between 13th to 23rd of November to introduce kids to a range of readings, talks, debates, performances, workshops and interactions.
Speaking on the collaboration with Kahaani, Himanshu Giri, CEO, Pratham Books said, "As outreach partner for the Kahaani festival, the biggest joy for Pratham Books is that we can actually extend our goal of putting a book in yet another child's hand. Ever since the inception of the festival, we have brought alive the world of stories to children across the spectrum and bridged the divide between elite and underserved schools."
The past 4 years of the Kahaani Festival in Jaipur have seen a long association with Jayshree Periwal Group of Schools (JPGS). This year too, JPGS has partnered with the Festival. "The Kahaani Festival is a path breaking initiative by Teamwork Arts to revive the dying art of Storytelling. Instead of pushing information out to children, the art of storytelling allows us to pull them in and make them engage with the central idea. It allows children to adorn various hats and be creative thinkers, diligent dramatists and innovative individuals. It allows them to explore and experience. It's for this reason that storytelling is a huge part of the IB education and thus of JPGS as well. We have been associated with Kahaani for many years now and we believe this association has been instrumental in allowing the children to revel in the magic of storytelling," said Dr Jayshree Periwal, Chairperson, Jayshree Periwal Group of Schools.
Several artists, educators and storytellers from across the country aim to contribute in making Kahaani 2017 an exciting event. Highlights of this year's edition include Puppet Shows by Dadi Pudumjee and Varun Narain, internationally-acclaimed theatre and circus performance by Mandrágora Circa, an interactive reading session by Zuni Chopra and fun and engaging workshops by Jyoti Parruck, Ranjan De and Ramawtar Singh to name a few.
“Kahaani Festival will enchant and empower audiences of all ages as it explores a multitude of traditional and contemporary narratives from India and around the world. We are delighted to present the festival this year at a public venue at the heart of the city for young kids in Jaipur, as well as their parents and educators, to explore the colourful world of storytelling," adds Sanjoy Roy, Managing Director, Teamwork Arts.
