TEDxDharavi to showcase innovations originating out of one of Asia’s largest slums, Dharavi
TEDxDharavi, an independently organized TED event, will explore "Innovation under Constraints", taking inspiration from the innovations originating out of one of Asia’s largest slums, Dharavi. Aptly themed ‘Reimagine Redefine’, the TEDxDharavi event will take place on Sunday, 5th February 2017, from 11 am to 5 pm at the open-air auditorium at Maharashtra Nature’s Park in Dharavi and looks to make a direct impact on Mumbai by generating, nurturing and giving shape to ideas.
TEDxDharavi will host several famous innovators and speakers from different walks of life, uncovering their ideas, and the impact of these ideas on society.
The venue itself boasts of large species of butterflies, flora and fauna. Once a plastic dump yard, Maharashtra Nature’s Park, now a sprawling nature’s park at the edge of Dharavi is an apt location for this event.
TEDxDharavi promises to be exciting with a stellar line up of speakers, from within Dharavi, Mumbai and other parts of India, as well as global speakers, all exploring the theme. Some of the noted speakers include Padma Shri Jockin Arputham, President of National Slum Dwellers Federation who has been key in partnering with the government to deal with housing and other problems; Dr. R Vasudevan, also known as Plastic Man of India, transforming waste plastic into roads; Akash Dhangar, Founder of SlumGods; Aabid Surti, a national award winning author and Founder of Drop Dead Foundation; Avi Malik, Founder of Temple Pilots and Divyanshu, India's first blind paraglider; Akshay Abraham, of Project Khel, teaching life lessons to adolescents through games; Harsh Valecha, talking about unconditional giving & building a fully off grid self-sustainable farm; Eashan Thakrar, an 18 year founder of a global NGO – The Youth Project and Ajay Talwar, an avid photographer travelling across India taking photographs of the universe from different parts of the country.
The event will also see performances from under privileged children from Teach for India NGO, Charles Ma, an unusual Bharat Natyam performance and SlumGods which also mentors dancers and has formed an international hip hop group.
The attendees will not only hear from inspiring speakers but will also get a chance to meet them over networking sessions during the event. Tickets for TEDxDharavi event are available at Mera Events.
