Red Bull brings Kode9 to India with exclusive session and club night

?

Following last year’s performances by Hudson Mohawke and Benjamin Damage (not to mention Modeselektor’s visit in 2013); Red Bull Music Academy is back in India with London based DJ, producer, writer and founder of iconic record label Hyperdub - Steve Goodman, better known as Kode9.

Kode9 is the founder of Hyperdub, a record label he started in 2004. Ten years after its inception, Hyperdub stands tall with a roster that includes some of the most recognizably talented underground artists in the world today, such as mysterious electronica producer Burial, late footwork pioneer DJ Rashad, The Bug (who released one of the most acclaimed albums last year), dubstep/chiptune force Ikonika and R&B artist Jessy Lanza. This is dance music at its finest.

A lecturer at two previous Academy editions, Kode9’s association with the Academy goes back a decade. “It’s my first time in India so I'm excited to play here. I've worked with Red Bull Music Academy all over the world so I'm keen to see the level of interest in electronic music in India,” he said, gearing up for his Red Bull Music Academy sessions in New Delhi and Mumbai.

Once a full time lecturer in sonic culture at the University of East London, as well as having published a book based on the politics of frequency, titled; Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect, and the Ecology of Fear, it’s clear why he’s been chosen to lead the first RBMA session to be held in India this year.

The label kingpin will be joined in his visit to the Motherland with Red Bull Music Academy affiliate and all round sonic savant, Nick Dwyer, who will be moderating the sessions followed by a club night. Nick has worked with the Academy over the years as a lecture team member and in 2014, created the Academy’s documentary series, “Diggin’ In The Carts,” tracing the history of video game music in Japanese culture.

With an extensive radio career spanning over two decades under his belt, Nick was also the daily RBMA Radio host at the Tokyo edition of the Academy. He is also an active DJ and is currently working on New Zealand based Weird Together Project’s debut record, out on UK label Soundway this year.
