Red Bull Music Academy presents the debut India tour of Hudson Mohawke
Red Bull Music Academy has introduced the subcontinent to some of the world’s most cutting edge music, with electronica giants Modeselektor and techno don Benjamin Damage both performing in India within the span of just a year.
This November, Red Bull Music Academy is showcasing the hyper percussive sounds of Glaswegian producer Ross Birchard a.k.a Hudson Mohawke. A true force in the international music community, he is an artist who has demonstrated his genre defying talent and peerless energy - time and time again.
First rising to prominence after being selected for the DMC (UK) finals as a fledgling 15 year old DJ, Mohawke is today recognized as an inimitable producer.
In 2007, Mohawke got selected as a participant at the Toronto edition of the Red Bull Music Academy for which he says: “At all of 21 years, it was my first time away from home and initially it did feel daunting. But soon enough I realized just how amazing an opportunity it was and that I had to make the most of it. It was definitely a formative experience for me both career wise and collaboration wise, working alongside musicians from different countries”
After signing to mammoth British electronic label – Warp Records (whose roster include the likes of Aphex Twin, Flying Lotus and Rustie) in 2009, Hudson Mohawke dropped his debut LP ‘Butter’ to critical acclaim.
A steady diet of hip-hop, rave and deep techno is responsible for his unique take on urban bass music and as a founding member of LuckyMe Records, Hudson Mohawke has been pushing the boundaries of underground dance music, blending lush, horn blasted hip-hop with neon tinted, hyperactive electronica - for as long as we can remember. The resulting sound is roaring, deep and hugely melodic.
In 2012, the producer began a series of collaborations with hip-hop legend Kanye West, producing tracks on the eagerly awaited GOOD Music compilation – ‘Cruel Summer.’ As if that isn’t enough, he also makes up one half of the ground breaking electronica duo TNGHT with Canadian producer Lunice.
“India has been on my bucket list for many years, never would’ve thought I’d be asked to come and perform there. At the moment I am playing a lot of different styles from the hip hop that I’m know for, to more dance and electronic infused styles to some classical pieces, so the Indian audiences can expect to be taken on a musical journey.” says an excited Mohawke.
Red Bull Music Academy will be hosting a three-city tour with Hudson Mohawke this November, starting their journey in New Delhi on 12 November, moving to Bangalore on 14 November, before the final pit stop in Mumbai on 15 November.
