Overuse of plastic is the main cause of plastic pollution. Today, the world produces about 300 million tonnes of plastic waste every year. That's nearly equivalent to the weight of the entire human population. Addressing the severity of the issue, Plaza Premium Lounge at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad has become completely plastic free with regards to single use plastic products. A part of the world’s largest independent airport lounge network, it is the first independent pay-in lounge at the Airport to go plastic free.

In its endeavor to adopt green practices, Plaza Premium Lounge has replaced disposable spoons by corn starch cutlery, plastic straws by paper straws, garbage bags by biodegradable bags, and has installed water dispensers replacing 500 ml plastic water bottles. The Lounge has taken steps to abolish the single-use plastic (above 40-50 microns as per state government) at their lounge in Bengaluru.

Bhavya Kukreja, GM PR & Marcom, Plaza Premium Lounge India shares, “Plastic has become a global problem. As the group currently serves more than 14 million travellers around the world annually, the potential for changing consumer behavior is high. We consider it as our responsibility to make the changes that will have a meaningful impact. We are working closely with the airport authorities to make all our lounges single-use plastic free”.

Plaza Premium Lounge (PPL) also recently bagged the Pinnacle Award 2019 from Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) under the category of 'Excellence in Green and Sustainable Practices - Commercial Partner at Pinnacle 2019'. The award is given in recognition of the outstanding service rendered at the Bengaluru airport for the FY 2018-19. The Plaza Premium lounge at Bengaluru airport is 90 percent single-use plastic free.

Plaza Premium Group also has a meet and greet service ‘Allways’ which is also currently operational in Delhi and would soon be extended in other cities too.
