Remember, the standard of an Indian MICE event should match up to its international counterparts. So, one has raise the bar and plan meticulously.

First, go through the yearly calendar carefully. If your event is coinciding with any other MICE event, then try to create your own USP. That means, try to offer something different. Adding in a unique factor will ensure footfall.

Second, budgeting is one of the most important pillars, when planning any event. Prepare a detailed budget and stick to that. You can easily be carried away trying to incorporate bits and pieces into your event to make it as elaborate as possible. But you need to make sure you allocate your funds wisely and prioritize to create maximum impact at minimal spends.

Third, do plenty of research to find the perfect location for the MICE event, as a particular location can often make or break an event. Don’t just Google the locations, make sure a good amount of on ground research goes into selecting a location with the right infrastructure, flexibility, accessibility and allure, before you finalise your choice.

Fourth, make sure you have a differentiated agenda, format or location.  Whether you want to add some eclectic entertainment, exclusive speakers, technology driven innovations, unique activities or just a spectacular location – make sure you add something talk-worthy to your MICE event.

Fifth, make sure your hospitality and logistics is planned to the last detail. You don’t want to give your delegates or attendees a reason to complain and the importance of good hospitality should not be underestimated.

Lastly create some buzz before the event to get people excited!

5 mistakes you should not make

First, don’t disregard quality over quantity. You may find a good deal when planning an event and thus can save some money. However, make sure you don’t compromise on the right quality as detailing goes a long way with a discerning crowd.

Second, don’t compromise on the right manpower. Make sure you invest in the right people to manage the event on ground and interact with your guests.   First impressions matter.

Third, don’t rush the process. Give yourself enough time and create checklists. Especially if exploring a new venue, make sure you have budgeted for enough time to plan recces, logistics, production and all of the minute details that need preparation in order to execute well. Make sure you have a detailed checklist with timelines to ensure nothing is missed out.

Fourth, don’t have too many people making decisions. Outline responsibilities and decision makers who will have the final say. Too many opinions often lead to inconclusive meetings, productive time loss and delays.

Fifth, don’t do too much. Keep it simple and focus on a few key highlights. If you try to squeeze too much,the essence is lost. A few impactful elements always work better than trying to do it all.
