Oorja by CAPF U-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament unveils logo and mascot at India Gate

Oorja by CAPF U-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament for boys and girls is a precursor to the first ever Fifa U-17 World Cup India 2017, among the biggest sporting events in Indian history with an estimated global audience of about 200 million viewers from almost 200 Countries.

The event is being jointly organized by the CAPF/AR under the aegis of All India Police Sports Control Board and would have 12,500 Footballers playing 1200 Matches in 32 States and Union Territories. A total of over 20 Lac will be given away as prize money during the three phases of the tournament which would start at the State/UT level on 1st May 2017 with the finals being played in New Delhi on 25th July 2017.

"Oorja" by CAPF U/19 Football Talent hunt tournament for Boys and Girls kicked off yesterday in a befitting ceremony by Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh in the presence of an ominous gathering of glitterati at India Gate Lawns today. This nationwide tournament encompassing 36 states and UTs of India will be a National U/19 competition for talent identification, as recognized by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Govt. of India.

Comedian Sunil Grover and leading MC Gitikka Ganju Dhar carried out the proceedings of the event.

Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh said that last year, the Hon’ble Prime Minister has called for awareness in the field of football and that the FIFA U-17 World Cup India-2017 may act as a catalyst for change by creating a mass movement around football in the country. Hon’ble HM congratulated the AIPSCB and the CAPFs for the noble initiative that may revolutionalise football in the country.

The Logo of Oorja by CAPF/ AR was unveiled in the ceremony with the mission statement “Arise, awake and stop not until the goal is reached".

The Mascot of tournament “Gabru” the cub, appeared in front of the august gathering. “Gabru” epitomizes all that the adolescents stand- unbridled energy, youthful exuberance, zest for life and incredible desires for success and achievements.

Kapil Dev, the brand ambassador of tournament Oorja by CAPF/ AR was present with notable figures like Milind Soman (Model and Fitness role model), Sukhwinder Singh (Writer/singer) Baichung Bhutia, I M Vijayan, Gurdev (all National Football players), Mary Kom (The boxer), Sushil Kumar, Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari (from wrestling world,) and Gopichand (famous badminton player and coach).

Sukhvinder Singh the writer, composer and singer had volunteered to do the anthem for the tournament which was played and performed in the event. This soul stirring lyrics of the Tournament Anthem in the youthful voice of Sukhwinder Singh explained the real meaning of "Oorja" to audience.

During the event, 25 eminent sportsmen of CAPF were also felicitated by the Chief Guest honoring their contribution to the world of sport and presenting them as role model to today's youth that games and sports like football will not only in enthuse self-discipline, assessing defining and the determination skill in them but will also help them to harness the positivity within..

The tournament will be conducted in three phases in different states where federations of school and other sports entities will be fielding their teams for the prizes worth more than one crore and finally to produce a pool of talent for Indian team.

The CAPF – BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB and the Assam Rifles have come jointly under the aegis of All India Police Sports Control Board to organise this three phase tournament starting from 1st May 2017 in different states and UTs and culmination on 25th July 2017 in New Delhi.
