Amid the ongoing crisis in the film industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kangana Ranaut starrer Thalaivii (Hindi), which is produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri, struggles to find a place in the national multiplex networks.

The makers of the film have already decided to release the film on Netflix, after 2 weeks of its theatrical release. This has resulted in PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis not giving any room for the film which is set to be released on September 10th.

The top three national multiplex chains have jointly decided to insist on a minimum exclusive theatrical window of about a month until business as usual returns, which is the reason they are declining to the maker's demands.

Since the two makers consented to postpone the digital release for about a month after the theatrical release, the chains are screening Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor starrer Bell Bottom, and Amitabh Bachchan, Imran Hashmi starrer Chehre.

Meanwhile the leading lady Kangana Ranaut took to her Instagram and wrote in her Instagram story, "No films are choosing theatres, very few and very brave like my producers Vishnu Vardhan Induri,

Shailesh R Singh is compromising on huge profits and letting go of exclusive streaming options only for the love of cinema.  In these times we must support each other and not bully or arm-twist, it's our fundamental right to recover the cost of our film which we did. We may have a two weeks window for the Hindi version but for the South, we have a four weeks window yet multiplexes are ganging up on us and stopping our release there as well. This is unfair and cruel in these testing times when major territories like Maharashtra are also shut. Please let's help each other in order to save theatres."

"Multiplexes have different rules when it comes to big heroes films, they released Radhe simultaneously on OTT and theatres. They have released Master with 2 weeks window, releasing Hollywood movies with simultaneous OTT release in the US, but refusing to screen Thalaivii which has a 4 weeks window. PVR Cinemas, INOX Movies, and the system make sure that no woman rises and then complains why don't we have women superstars bringing audiences to the theatre on their own like men do," Ranaut said.
