Michael Menezes is not a person lost, but an institution lost: Siddhartha Chaturvedi
I always appreciated his candid stance, his ability to take people together and yet call a spade a spade, remembers Siddhartha Chaturvedi, CEO, EventCrafter.
Guess it was 1997, a young 20 something boy who had just opened an agency of his own in a small town named Jaipur happened to attend a public launch event of a two-wheeler brand. That night cast a huge impression on the young lad, who was me. It reiterated the belief in me that I have risked my career doing just the right thing and cemented the decision for the lifetime. Such was the impact of that evening on me. It was a laser show done as part of a series across the country to launch a new scooter from the house of Hero Honda. I had heard of this new agency named 'Showtime', and also heard stories about how they had bought these lasers and invested in them as these weren't available in the country at that time.
Such was this man, Michael Menezes, ahead of his times, a visionary who was ready to take big risks for big gains. Since then I always followed his line of work and got inspired along the way. I got to know him more personally at EEMA. At the association, I always appreciated his candid stance, his ability to take people together and yet call a spade a spade.
During the last EEMAGINE in Jaipur, when I was putting together the convention, he was so generous to appreciate my efforts and when I had raised my hands up to stand up in the election, his was one of the first calls I received, reiterating my belief again.
It won't be an exaggeration to state Michael was like a 'Godfather of this industry' - the number of entrepreneurs that mushroomed working under him at Showtime is amazing to see. These agencies in Delhi have a sizeable number now. There was a joke which went at EEMA that there's a parallel sizeable group named SEEMA (Showtime ex-employee association), one has to deal with at the association matters.
Michael Menezes is not a person lost, but an institution lost. An inspiring institution which the generations to come will look upto, always.
