Messe Dortmund is adding the VertiFarm trade show to its varied portfolio. The new B2B format focuses on networking, interaction, and knowledge transfer in vertical farming and highlights the latest developments in the cultivation of alternative crops, sustainable fish, insect and plant recirculation systems, CBD and herb production equipment, and medicinal plants.

The conceptual partner behind VertiFarm is the Association for Vertical Farming (AVF). From 27 to 29 November 2022, VertiFarm will give this global trend topic an important European platform at Messe Dortmund.

“Vertical farming is one of the up-and-coming topics of our time. Developments in Asia, the US and Europe underline the strong growth seen in recent years. Messe Dortmund and the Association for Vertical Farming are responding to this with the new VertiFarm trade show, giving tomorrow's agriculture model an important B2B platform whose audience includes decision-makers at home and abroad,” said Sabine Loos, Managing Director of the Westfalenhallen group of companies.

“As a trade show venue in Germany's Ruhr conurbation located at the heart of Europe, we have traditionally had a close affinity to such matters. Growing urbanisation, efficient use of limited land, structural transformation of the local industrial heritage, and attracting high-tech start-ups and strong inward investment have been major topics here for decades. That, in turn, is a perfect breeding ground for a forward-thinking trade show format such as VertiFarm," Loos added.

AVF acts as a key player at this interface, working as an internationally networked non-profit organization to promote interaction and collaboration with the aim of accelerating the development of the indoor and vertical farming industry. It claims vertical farming can already provide access to fresh, safe, and adequate food supplies regardless of climate and location.

“In the coming decades, as overpopulation and severe planetary changes challenge our current way of living, vertical farming will be a much-needed solution for global food production,” said Christine Zimmermann-Loessl, Chief Executive of the Association for Vertical Farming.

“In Dortmund, we have the opportunity to establish VertiFarm not just in the populous state of North-Rhine Westphalia, but right in the very centre of Europe. With its experience in national and international trade shows, Messe Dortmund is an ideal partner for AVF," Zimmermann-Loessl added.
