Korea Tourism Organization To Host Two-Day Culture And Tourism Festival In Mumbai

Organised by Korea Tourism Organisation, the two-day extravaganza aims to popularize South Korea as a hot favourite destination among Indian travellers.


A two-day Korea festival showcasing Korea’s rich art, culture and heritage will take place on 13th and 14th April, 2019 at High Street Phoenix, Mumbai. Prior to the festival, a press conference will be held on 12thApril, 2019 to announce KTO’s business plans for the year.

Organised by Korea Tourism Organisation, the two-day extravaganza aims to popularize South Korea as a hot favourite destination among Indian travellers by giving a glimpse into the rich Korean culture. The aim is to acquaint Indian tourists with famous South Korean tourist destinations, delicacies, local culture and the country’s modern legacy.

The festival will have food sampling sessions to give a taste of the local Korean snacks to serve Indian taste buds, managed by AT Centre and the traditional Bibimbap rice dish, Sujeonggwa drink tasting session organized by KTO.

The experiences like Traditional Hanbok wearing, face and mask painting, VR experiences, Korean calligraphy name writing, display of Famous Korean TV Drama, Movies and K- Pop music and traditional games like Tuho (Pitch-pot), Ddakji (Slap Match), Jegichagi (Shuttlecock) have been specially arranged for Indian audiences.

The Key highlights at the event include live stage performances at the festival by Korean artists such asIN2IT (K-pop boy group) Alexandra, Gamblerz Crew (B-Boying group), Queen (Fusion music group), Taekwondo show and Indian K-pop cover dance which will enthral the audience.

The festival will also witness participation from Gimhae City (the land where Indian Princess Heo married the Korean prince, Gyeonggi Province (the region to which Dematerialized Zone belongs), Incheon Airport (the winner of best airport worldwide by ACI) and Jeju Island – (the only Island amongst the New 7 wonders of Nature)to promote their respective tourist attractions.

To promote the film tourism in Korea, Seoul Film Commission and Korea Film Commission will be a part of the festival’s B2B programme. At the same dates, two-day Korea Movie Weekend is also being organized by Korean Culture Centre at the PVR Juhu for everyone to enjoy Korean cinema.

With an aim to meet the rapidly increasing Indian travel passenger demands, the Indian Travel agents will offer special discounted packages to the visitors. The visitors will be enticed with a variety of free Korea Tourism Merchandise by taking the stamp tour at the festival. Adding to the magical cherry blossom season and spring beauty of South Korea, the festival endeavours to attract visitors for the season.

Speaking on the Korea Festival, Park, Jeong ha, Vice President KTO, said, “Indian outbound travel to South Korea is on the rise. In 2018, approximately 100,000 Indian travellers visited South Korea and the numbers are growing with an average rate of 10-15% year on year.   While the number of Indians travelling abroad has increased three-fold in the last one decade, there are a lot of offerings from South Korea which are still unexplored and unexperienced. Such festivals help in a great way to fortify and deepen the understanding.” 

Speaking on the Korea Festival, Jong Sool Kwon, Korea Tourism Organisation, New Delhi Director, said, “South Korea is a land of natural beauty and offers an unadulterated tinge of adventure to international travellers. We hope to reach a larger section of aspiring Indian travellers and tap into exponentially growing Indian tourism sector through the Korea festival.  We are positive that the endeavour will highlight Korean splendour in its true spirit to our Indian friends.”

The bilateral relationship between Indian and South Korea is based on a long history of friendship and it has grown in various aspects. Indian travellers are exploring world like never before. As per a report published by Integreon (research organization), India is among the fastest growing outbound travel markets, and is expected to be among top five as per international tourism expenditures by 2025.

The two-day Korea festival would be open for all the shoppers and visitors at High Street Phoenix, Mumbai.
