He was a father figure who taught me everything about events: Sharad Mathur
Me and my whole family mourns his sad demise and he will always be remembered as ‘Father of Event Industry, writes Sharad Mathur, MD, EMG Entertainment.
Michael Menezes, Chairman of Showtime Group and Founder President of EEMA India passed away today morning after a long illness.
Menezes was associated with the events and experiential industry for the last four decades. He commanded a rare reputation in brand-building and experiential marketing and was the man behind the strategic and tactical vision of the Showtime Group.
Sharad Mathur, MD, EMG Entertainment remembers his long association with the veteran. Sharing his thoughts, Mathur said, “There are event managers, there are people who are legends, then there are people who are an institution in themselves, and then there is Michael Menezes, comparable to none. I met Michael sir in 1996 at Showtime office. He was a dynamic man with a vision and a friendly boss who partied every day with us during event days. He taught us how the event industry functioned, he trusted people blindly and made me whatever I am today. He always had a bigger vision for almost everything in life. A tech savvy gentleman who was more updated than his younger staff, he always used to share his personal stories of childhood and life with me.”
“He always used to say that there is only one Michael Menezes in Mangalore, place where he belonged to , and there is one Michael Menezes in India now. He always taught us to consider work as worship and shared how when his father died he had to travel the same day for work. He loved his work , created a huge industry and market for events. To me he was a father figure who taught me everything about events, which is helping me earn my livelihood and gave me a great career. Me and my whole family mourn his sad demise and he will always be remembered as ‘Father of Event Industry", added Mathur.
