Finolex launches social media campaign to conserve water
Finolex Industries Limited (FIL), UPVC& CPVC pipes manufacturer launched an innovative campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day. A ten day campaign on social media was run with the aim to highlight the problem of water wastage and to create awareness on the importance of water conservation. Using the catch line and hashtag PaaniKo #PaaniKiTarahMatBahao the campaign makes a strong plea to not waste water but to save it.The campaign questions the casual attitude that we in general have towards water.
A video in relation with the campaign which has been uploaded on Facebook and YouTube that focuses on how people talk about water in an extremely depreciating way in India. Different people speak about water and insinuate that it is not of any great value. For instance a person who has just attended a party hints about how everything flows like water, a woman who has shopped for shoes says that she has spent money like water and a taxi driver who has just dropped a passenger says that what is being consumed is petrol and not water.
Moral of the story: Water is readily available and can be wasted freely. The public awareness video released has already received more than a lac views on social media sites.
This was also supplemented by a Twitter contest where conversation was encouraged on ways to save water. The winners were chosen based on the quality of the tweets and the amount of engagement/interaction that they had on the Finolex Twitter handle (@Finolexwater). The hashtag #PaaniKiTarahMatBahao trended No 1 in India on Thursday 4th June, 2015.
Mr. Nitin Kulkarni (President Sales and Marketing), Finolex Industriessaid, “Water is a precious resource and it is a limited one. We at Finolex Industries want to sensitisethe young generation on the value of conservation of this natural resource.” He further added, “AtFinolex Industries we actively work with farmers and are aware of the acute problems they face because of limited water supply, low rainfall etc. We would urge everyone to change their attitude towards the way water is used and be conscious of the value it brings to our lives.”
