Devendra Fadnavis inaugurates ‘World Orange Festival' in Nagpur, organised by Taplight
The first of its kind ‘World Orange Festival 2017’ kick-started on 16 December 2017 in Nagpur. The 3 day festival was inaugurated by the Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways. Supported by Government of Maharashtra and hosted by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), this festival started from today and will go on till 18th of December in support of orange producers.
Other dignitaries present for the inauguration were Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture & Family Welfare, Shri Jaykumar Rawal, Tourism Minister, Government of Maharashtra; Government of India, Shri Madan Yerawar, MoS for Energy, Tourism, Food and Drugs Administration and GAD, Government of Maharashtra and Shri Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Hon’ble Minister for Energy, New and Renewable Energy, Government of Maharashtra.
More than 2000 guests witnessed the inauguration ceremony at Suresh Bhatt auditorium and over 300 kids with families enjoyed exciting and 1st of its kind activities at Traffic Park. Government and private entities as Orange Growers Association of India, Department of Agriculture, UPL, Bajaj Electricals, Coca-Cola, Indian Oil, Camlin, Integriti have all come forward towards the larger cause of this festival. A Lokmat initiative, the festival has been conceptualised and executed by Taplight. #WorldOrangeFestival
The festival is designed to give an impetus to the local farming community and boost the identity of ‘Nagpur as Orange City’ on the World map. The event promises to be a celebration of sorts with cultural performances, panel discussions, trip to orange orchards, exhibitions and exciting contests and giveaways for the visitors. Some human lit statue, art installations across locations, Wishing Tree, live bands, special fireworks show at more than one location got the attention of over 1000 spectators across multiple locations.
An intensive panel discussion on 'Problems and prospects of orange cultivation' was held at the B2B summit seminar. Shri Pandurang Fundkar, Minister of Agriculture, Government of Maharashtra; Shri Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister for Energy, New & Renewable Energy & State Excise, Government of Maharashtra; Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Honorable Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare, Government of India & Shri Atul Sharma, Executive President & Country Head, Consumer Products, Bajaj Electricals Ltd were present.
Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport & Highways said “Nagpur is known for its highest production of oranges. To multiply the production and quality of the fruit, farmers need to use advanced technologies for farming. Festivals like world orange are a platform to share new technology and research with farmers to help increase the growth and sale of oranges at a Global level. We are planning to set up shops at Railway stations and International airports to promote and market oranges on a wider platform”.
Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra congratulates Lokmat for initiating World Orange Festival to promote Nagpur at an international platform, this festival to be an annual feature. Speaking on the occasion, CM expressed his views to support Nagpur Orange Growers’ Association (NOGA) through 49% government and 51% private partnership model. In the coming years, world orange festival will bring together researchers from the world with new age technology for farmers in Nagpur to produce better quality oranges. The demand for oranges will increase with the help of exports and transportation facilities. To boost the transportation of oranges, pre cooling and cold storage facilities will be provided on the upcoming Nagpur - Mumbai Super Express Way.
A never seen before exhibition on ‘Citrus Fruit Show’ was also inaugurated today. The festival will also have exciting activities such as trip to Orange orchards, Orange installations by art students, recipe contests, music festival and cultural parades. Moreover, Orange farmers from across 10 other states of India will be participating in the festival. International Orange Cultivators and Technology Experts will also attend the event from 3 Israel, Turkey and South Africa.
Leading Maharastrian celebrities, doctors, dietitians and industry experts will be seen participating in the festival. This event will conclude with a foot tapping performance by Bollywood youth sensation Benny Dayal.
