Cyclists in New Delhi- another reason to rejoice!
Travel search provider, Ixigo, in association with the Indian National Trust For Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and the Delhi Cyclists group is organizing the Mixigo Cyclathon on Sunday, November 24, 2013 in Delhi-NCR. Aimed at raising awareness on the maintenance and restoration of heritage sites across the capital, the event is scheduled to kick-off from Rashtrapati Bhawan and Qutub Minar at 7 AM.
Mixigo is an offline initiative by ixigo which aims to promote interactive sessions between travellers, photographers, bloggers and travel enthusiasts. Their association with INTACH and the Delhi cyclists Group is aimed at endorsing the eventful heritage of the city, evidence of which exists in the numerous historical buildings and sites dotting the urbanscape.
Speaking with Saurabh Srivastava, VP Marketing and Product Strategy at Ixigo, he said, “We realised there's a huge knowledge pool on travel that exists in India. The idea of Mixigo is to get a few like minded people together and conduct resourceful sessions that bust myths and spread awareness. Social media acts as a great tool for us to reach out to our target audience and meet our purpose. At the cyclathon each rider would cover a distance of 30 to 40 kilometers. We plan to encourage each participant to post their photos from the event onto their respective facebook pages and raise pledges for the cause upto a maximum of Rs 300.”
The event targeted towards cycling enthusiasts from all parts of the city has already attracted the interest of most cycling groups in Delhi NCR. “Besides being a CSR initiative, the event is aimed at bringing the sizeable community of cyclists together. We already have over 100 registrations so far. Although small, it is definitely a step in the right direction. Being our first such attempt we are still in testing mode, but if the response is as expected we have plans of traveling to other cities within India as well”, says Saurabh.
Its great to see that cycling is picking up as a fun activity and sport and with initiatives such as the Godrej Eon Tour De India scheduled for December 2013 and the Mixigo Cyclathon, you can now ride for a noble cause. Guess its time to dust out those rusty bikes!
