Channel V Nokia India Fest 2014: The lowdown
An exodus of students from the boonies and cities alike gathered on the sands of Goa on 7th and 8th Feb to attend the Channel V Nokia India Fest 2014. Competing on one platform across various categories ranging from dance, fashion, digital arts, sports, music, theatre and drama, the 2014 edition of India Fest attracted close to 1000 participants from various colleges across the nation. With more than 3.5 million likes on its Facebook page, needless to say, this youth specific event has grabbed some serious eyeballs.
Finalists were chosen based on multi-city zonals held at Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, New Delhi, Goa and Chennai. The grand finale in Goa was packed with competitions, workshops, seminars, student activities, engagements and performances by various national and international artists. The event was free for all and students could gain entry simply by producing their college identity cards. According to PremKamath, EVP and GM, Channel V, “Goa seemed to be the natural choice when we were deliberating upon the venue for the grand Finale. We wanted maximum participation from students and Goa acted as an added incentive for them to push a wee bit harder at the zonals. We basically presented a legitimate reason to these kids to be granted permission by their parents to travel to this glorious city”. The evidence was clearly the mile long queue outside the venue that only seemed to grow longer by the hour. While the multi-city zonals were organized by Fountainhead, a leading experiential marketing agency, 70 Event Management Group executed the final event at Goa.
At the event we caught up with Martin Da Costa, CEO, 70 EMG, who commented, “70 EMG has been organizing the Nokia India Fest since the year of its inception and we have seen the event grow exponentially over this course of four years. We ensure the security is tight and only eligible students are granted access upon producing legitimate ID cards. The whole idea is to allow them unbridled fun and to completely let loose. Being in Goa obviously helps. You can tell from the roaring crowd that this years event is another success”.
While the day saw students competing in various events, the evenings were dedicated to performances and celebrity appearances. This years event was headlined by singer-duo Vishal and Shekhar and SunidhiChauhan who had the crowd on their feet with their electrifying singing. Celebrities who graced this year’s event included NehaDhupia, SurajJagan, DJ Akhtar, NishkaLulla, Dino Morea and DJ Suketu.
Besides winning internships, scholarships, prizes in cash & kind, the winners also stood the chance to land a career with India’s largest television network – Star India Pvt Ltd. and be picked up by Director/Producer Rohan Sippy as talent for his next movie.
AbhishChandok, Head- Activation, Media, Consumer Intelligence, Nokia, said, “Nokia has been the title sponsors for the India Fest since year one and we have continually seen immense value in it. Nokia is a brand targeted at the youth and this event is evidently positioned as India’s largest youth festival. We are privileged to have partnered with Star TV in this initiative and am certain that Nokia would continue to sponsor the event in its coming years too”.
While Nokia was the title sponsor for the Channel V Nokia India Fest, other sponsors included Honda, Woodland, Fogg deodorant, Moserbaer and Airtel.
