Bangalore International Airport celebrates 'Season of Smiles'

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has announced a month-long extravaganza for its passengers themed ‘Season of Smiles’. With the entire city in a festive mood as the holiday season sets in, Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru is all set to spread smiles and celebrate with the city. Season of Smiles, a month-long festival of happiness from December 18th, 2014, to January 18th, 2015, is an attempt to spread joy among its passengers and visitors through music and art. The airport, in collaboration with its stakeholders, will don a bright and festive look, setting the stage for varied activities and performances in contribution to the community.



The festivities at the airport will come to life with strong city partnerships including Bangalore School of Music, a registered trust and non-profit organisation, committed to education of music and Dhaatu, a non- profit organization founded to revive the art of Puppetry and storytelling. These associations will bring alive the festive spirit surrounding Christmas, New Year, Pongal and Sankranti. All through this time, passengers can win daily prizes worth INR 50,000 or more, and four mega prizes worth INR 10 Lac. Daily prize includes smartphones, two-night stays at a leading hotel and airline tickets to a domestic destination. The mega prize includes a diamond jewellery set, an all-expense paid three-night-four days cricket experience, airline tickets to an international destination and free dining at the airport for a year. Passengers can participate in this lucky draw by purchase of products or food and beverage worth INR 100 at any of the retail, food and beverage outlets and lounges at the airport.



The activities will reach a crescendo during the year end, when the airport will engage passengers through caricature artists, fortune tellers and musicians to bring in a joyous 2015. These activities will be seen again during Pongal and Sankranti, celebrated to mark the beginning of spring, with five to seven hours of music. Visitors can also watch in action an origami artist, who will create paper crafts with the passengers.

Activities around music and lost art of puppetry



The Season of Smiles will celebrate the city’s growing musical talent by giving them a platform to perform at the airport. Passengers will be treated to a variety of performances from melodious serenades to large group orchestras of 70 musicians; at the kerb side. In December they will elevate spirits at the airport with festive carols and songs.

The association with Dhaatu will bring to life popular Kannada and Hindi songs being performed by wooden puppets. Passengers will be treated toPuppet shows, photo opportunities with puppet installations and interactive opportunities with the puppeteers behind the scene.

Scholarship for kids

 

With an intention to create memorable moments of cheer for those who need it the most, the airport will organize a special event at the kerb side for young children associated with Sarvodaya Service Society, an NGO that shelters homeless kids and children with learning disability. The occasion goes beyond a party; select children will receive the gift of knowledge, with scholarships to continue their education for a year.
