Advertising wannabes take note – Portfolio Night 12 is here!

Imagine a room full of advertising stalwarts representing the biggest agencies in the country waiting to scrutinize your portfolio, offer you advice, maybe pay you a compliment or, if it is your day, even offer you a job. Aspiring creatives will jump at the chance and queue up outside this room, of course. It is Portfolio Night after all!

Incepted in 2003 by IHAVEANIDEA and presented by the Art Directors Club, New York, Portfolio Night 12 will be held simultaneously in 20 cities worldwide. In India, Lowe Lintas and Partners will be hosting the event on 21st May in Mumbai, the second time they are doing so.

The format of the event is simple. Creatives are divided into batches of three, and each aspirant’s work is reviewed by a minimum of three Creative Directors. Each Director will individually spend 15 minutes assessing the work and providing feedback. Additionally, the best Portfolio out of the lot, which is given the title of ‘ALL STAR’ will be flown to New York to take part in a week-long creative challenge on a specific brief, A great way to kick-start a career for any advertising aspirant.

As City Hosts, it is Lowe’s responsibility to bring together the biggest names in the business to review the entrants work, and the agency hasn’t disappointed. R Balki (Lowe Lintas), Josy Paul (BBDO), KS ‘Chax’ Chakravarthy (FCB Ulka), Abhijit Awasthi and Rajiv Rao (O&M), Bobby Pawar (Publicis) and Tista Sen (JWT) are some of the big names this year at Portfolio Night 12.

Lowe Lintas & Partners National Creative Director, Arun Iyer had this to say, “It is a great opportunity for Lowe Lintas to give back to the community and the industry of advertising. We would want young creative guys to come in and get the chance to talk to some of the best-known CDs in the country. Not only to get a sense of what the real world is all about, but also for the encouragement that they deserve and opportunities that advertising offers.”

Portfolio Night is one of the most successful platforms to hunt for fresh new advertising talent. For an industry that consistently suffers from talent crunch and brain drain, the event comes a talisman of light. The award started on a small scale in three cities in Canada back in 2003. The success of the event resulted in several new venues being added over the years and the tally now stands at 20.

The cities participating cities this year are Athens, Austin, Beijing, Beirut, Boston, Budapest, Cape Town, Chicago, Detroit, Dubai, Johannesburg, Montreal, Mumbai, New York, Paris, Shanghai, Singapore, Tel Aviv, Tokyo and Toronto.

Tickets for the event are priced at $30 per person and are already on sale. If you are willing to attend, you better put your book together, trust your stars and get set to rock Portfolio Night.
