27th edition of the Kingfisher Derby executed by Phase1 Events
The Kingfisher Derby 2014 took place on 13 July in Bangalore and was put together by Bangalore based experiential agency Phase1 Events and Entertainment.
Each year, the Kingfisher Derby crowns the best equine athlete and is a great example of a lifestyle-sporting event in India. It attracts the best jockeys and the finest horses from across the world along with the city’s most fashionable and well-dressed crowd. The Derby revelry was spread across the following three key events -
Trophy Unveiling (July 6th 2014) - A week prior to start of the season’s most awaited racing attraction, the Kingfisher Derby Trophy, was unveiled by Sandalwood actress Kriti Kharbanda, Gurpreet Singh, Assistant Vice President - Marketing, United Breweries Ltd and V. Harimohan Naidu, Chairman of the Bangalore Turf Club. The coveted ‘Silver Horse’ trophy is inspired by the undulating course at the Bangalore Turf Club and is topped with a striking filly.
Pre-Darby Party (July 11th 2014) - Kingfisher Premium also hosted an evening filled on with unbridled revelry and much fan fare. An enthralling Kingfisher ‘Pre-Derby Party’ and the Kingfisher ‘Starting Draw Night’ saw the who’s who of Bangalore assemble over some beer and discuss everything equestrian. The highlight of the evening was the presence of Bollywood actress and Kingfisher Calendar Girl Nicole Faria who charmed the gathering while drawing out names of horses at the ‘Starting Draw Nite’. Owners, trainers & jockeys were seen mingling with Bangalore’s glitterati and raising a toast to the ‘King of all Derbies’ as the band One Nite Stand and DJ Jasmeet entertained the crowd through the night.
Race day (July 13th 2014) - An unmatchable and majestic afternoon at the 27th edition of the Kingfisher Derby saw a new page being written in the history of the regal sport of horse racing. Be Safe galloped through the race and conquered the finish line to be rightfully crowned as the winner of the Silver Horse Trophy, its representatives winning a total of Rs 1,48,50,000! The city’s gorgeous fashionistas were dressed in their Sunday best with attractive hats and excited smiles adding to the heady ambience of the Derby.
The derby offers a total prize purse of Rs 2.5 crores, footfalls of over 23,000 people and generous splashes of glamour and style.
